Root Beer Battles

A root beer store recently opened near our house. It advertises over 100 different brands. It's kind of hard for me to believe that a store can stay in business just by selling root beer, but I've been curious to try for a while. My Megan loves root beer, so I've also been curious to see what she likes best.

I finally went over there and came home with four different types. Megan was excited to try and pulled out a notebook to keep track of the ones she has tried and to record her review. Eventually we will get to try them all - or at least the ones that look sort of interesting.

So far, we like the brands that have some Butterscotch added such as Dougie Dog's shown above. There's also a yummy vanilla root beer that tastes like root beer float. Yum.

While I was at the store, a family came in and the mother bought each of her kids a different bottle. The lady at the store said there were some brands that might be too much for kids. Not because of alcohol, but because the flavor was to strong. Naturally, I had to try one of these. It was strong. Almost too strong.

I went back a week later and got four different brands. All of them were pretty good. I've found a lot of them taste like the normal brands though - Mug or Barq's mostly. I wouldn't say they are worth getting again. The Butterscotch ones are pretty darn good though.

Another interesting thing to me is that when I've visited the store, there's always other people there buying stuff. I guess they do enough business to stay afloat. Good for them!

  1. That's just cool, I want to try those! I see a trip to Seattle in our future (not just for the rootbeer).

  2. We had a root beer tasting for David's twenty first birthday. A&W won hands down. We had about ten different kinds. I was surprised at the result.
